This is Gordon the Purple cat I knitted for the Feliway ‘That Purple Cat’ knitting competition. I won a runners-up prize, which I thought was pretty good for my first knitting competition. I got this pattern from the Jean Greenhowe knitted toys book. The pattern was originally intended for a tiger but with a simple change of colour the tiger had transformed into a purple cat. I love Jean Greenhowe’s patterns! They are just the perfect traditional knitted toys. All of the patterns are so simple and can easily be adapted for any need. There is so many too all for a wide variety of different occasions. This purple cat was the first knitted toy I had ever made so I am pretty happy with how it turned out. I think I need to work on the arms for next time though. Instead of the felted eyes recommended in the pattern I opted for googly eyes. I like to add these to my projects as I feel they add a little something extra to designs than a knitted of felt eye would. I like the quirkiness that they bring to the toy. I wasn’t particularly impressed with the wool I used for this project, unfortunately I cannot remember what it was called and I bought it from a local wool shop, however the wool split regularly throughout the project and frequently broke down into strands. Overall I’m quite happy with how Gordon turned out! He now has pride of place on my desk, watching over me as I type. If you fancy having a go Gordon can be found on my Ravelry page http://ravel.me/dodgeknittingcat/nj8wk Happy Knitting!
