I am one of those people who likes to make obsessive amounts of lists. I have a to-do list of things that have to be done over a long period of time such as essays and seminar work. Then I have a to-do today list, for example today’s includes write this article, pick some books up and complete my seminar work. I also like to stick notes around my desk reminding me of other things I have to do and make shopping lists, packing list, the list of lists goes on. To some of you this obsessive organisation and list making may be your idea of hell, but there is a new kind of list that is extremely addictive and appealing to all. It is called, the Bucketlist.
The Bucketlist is a new form of social network site that allows for you to share your life’s ambitions and goals. The websites tag line is ‘1001 things to do before you die’ and it aims to achieve just that. Most people have a dream of something they would love to do in life, whether it is see a wild Orang-utan or visit New York; the Bucketlist is the place to add this. The appeal of the Bucketlist is that you not only write down the goals you wish to achieve but you share them with friends and tell the story or post pictures of how you did it. The Bucketlist means that you won’t forget all of those things you said you wanted to do and it acts as an incentive for you to achieve them.
Like many other websites the Bucketlist allows you to link your account with Facebook and Twitter so you can show off your goals to others who may not have a list. Goals are simple to add and you can choose whether you wish to write about why you wish to achieve this or leave it blank. As well as this goals can be tagged with a keyword to allow you to look at similar goals by others. If there are any goals you have completed before you created your Bucketlist you can add them to and mark them as complete.
You can choose to follow your friend’s lists or vote for one of their goals as the most interesting. You can even select other people’s goals to add to your list or add them to your completed list. The goals that are seen as different or amazing appear in the featured section or on the Bucketlist twitter.
The question is where to start, at first it might be hard to think of something incredible yet realistic that you wish to achieve. So start with something simple, have you ever wanted to travel? Any place you have dreamed of seeing, add it to your Bucketlist. Perhaps you are an animal lover who has always wanted to swim with giant sea turtles, add that too. Maybe you have longed to see the unique things in life, for example the Northern lights? There is another thing to add. Once hooked you will quickly be adding more and more goals
The Bucketlist is a great place to share your goals and to record your achievements, but the most important thing is that you don’t just say you are going to do something but you make the time to actually do it. Forget the conventional ’20 top sites to see before you die’ list, break the mould and make your own. Get started now at http://bucketlist.org/ There is a world of possibilities out there and the list is endless.
